The LEAH Publication Program is a project dedicated to Leah Norwood, a Long Beach author, photographer, and editor who passed away late last year. One of her many goals of 2021 was to work with O.C.E.A.N to start a publication company for the community of Long Beach so they can produce their own books, magazines, large format art prints ect. We plan to keep that dream alive and make it reality.
This summer we were called upon by the local action sports community to facilitate events that had a greater meaning for skateboarders, bikers, bladers, and scooters alike. Titled "Push 4 Peace", we helped organize demonstrations where skaters and others in the community pushed through downtown not only to show unity in Long Beach, CA but also to raise money for supplying the youth with skateboards so they can continue to work on their craft and stay out of trouble. We then had a contest where local artist can design the boards. In the end, we announced everyone had won! This in turn will further promote local artist and build their portfolios and resumes. It also shows local skaters that they can make their own skate companies and don't have to depend on the industry that ignores so many of them. We are now working with local leadership to establish "Push 4 Peace" as its own independent charitable trust so the good work can continue.
On July 24th 2020 with the help of community volunteers, influencers, and entrepreneurs, we launched a virtual art show in the city of Long Beach, CA. The goal not only help up and coming artist build their resumes, but also express the way they feel about the social climate in the U.S the best way they know how. For most, it would be the first time being in a show and selling their work to the public. It was recognized as the biggest community art show of 2020 by the Long Beach Arts Council.
Our mission is to provide creative and safe spaces for youth, artists and entrepreneurs where they can build skill, trade, and income. Though we do this through various events and projects, our ultimate goal is to create a permanent physical space where this can happen. For now because of the COVID-19 Pandemic we have created a digital platform called LBLojo.org. A platform for the real culture of Long Beach, CA. This can be the hottest thing for content creators in the city if we really utilize the platform. Take a look.
