Push 4 Peace Innovative

What Is Push 4 Peace?

Push 4 Peace is a hands-on youth skate program founded and led by Chance Powers, Chairman of OCEANORG, in partnership with Hector Torres of Skate-A-Steem, a long-standing youth program working with skaters aged 6–12. Together, Chance and Hector bring a mix of experience in grassroots organizing, creative arts, and skateboarding mentorship.

The program offers free skate meetups, basic instruction, and creative engagement with a focus on building confidence and fostering peaceful, supportive environments—both at the skatepark and beyond. Every session encourages youth to develop a deeper connection to their bodies, peers, and communities through skateboarding.

The Journey of One Current Ebbing All Nations’ Push for Peace Initiative

In the wake of societal upheaval and amidst the call for change, One Current Ebbing All Nations (O.C.E.A.N) embarked on a journey to foster unity and solidarity within the Long Beach community. It was the summer of 2020 when the seeds of the Push for Peace Initiative were sown, inspired by a desire to channel the energy of disfunction into positive action.

The catalyst for this initiative was the tragic death of George Floyd and the ensuing protests that reverberated across the nation. In the midst of civil unrest and calls for justice, O.C.E.A.N recognized an opportunity to harness the collective power of skateboarding—a sport known for its inclusivity and community spirit—to promote peace and understanding.

.

The inaugural event, hosted by community leader Devan Romo and The Daily Diddi Podcast, saw skateboarders, bikers, scooters, bladers, and skaters converge at the courthouse, embarking on a symbolic journey towards Cherry Beach. It was more than just a ride; it was a statement—a declaration of solidarity and a commitment to building bridges across divides.

Buoyed by the success of this first event, O.C.E.A.N continued to expand the Push for Peace Initiative, weaving it into the fabric of the Long Beach community. The initiative evolved to encompass not only recreational rides but also outreach programs aimed at providing underprivileged youth with access to skateboarding equipment and mentorship opportunities.

At OCEANORGLB, we understand that true community change starts from the ground up—often on four wheels. That’s why we created Push 4 Peace, a youth-focused skateboarding program rooted in creativity, mentorship, and mutual respect. Designed to provide a safe, welcoming space for young skaters, Push 4 Peace uses skateboarding as a tool to promote peace, self-expression, and collective growth.

Why It Exists

Push 4 Peace was launched in response to the lack of safe, inclusive spaces for young skaters in Long Beach—especially kids from underserved neighborhoods who might not have access to gear, instruction, or encouragement. We saw how skateboarding could transform lives, build trust, and create lasting relationships. So, we built a program around that vision.

With a foundation in mutual aid and creative outreach, Push 4 Peace makes skateboarding accessible and community-oriented. It’s not about competition—it’s about collective care, personal growth, and making sure everyone has a chance to roll forward.

Supporting the Movement

In the Summer of 2020, Push 4 Peace launched its first Long Beach skateboard presale, offering beautifully crafted decks with a message of unity. Supporters who pre-ordered were given a special discount code for future drops—turning one-time buyers into long-term allies. All proceeds from sales go directly into the program, funding boards, safety gear, and educational materials for participating youth.

Our long-term goal is to grow Push 4 Peace into a full-scale initiative—offering regular sessions, mentorship from local skaters, and workshops that link skateboarding with art, design, and mental wellness.

How to Get Involved
